What Is a Neoclassical Decorative Facade System?
A neoclassical decorative facade system is the coordinated application of window and door surrounds, horizontal moldings, string courses, cornices, corner elements and entrance details within a consistent architectural composition.
The purpose is not to add decoration at random. It is to create a balanced facade whose proportions suit the scale and architecture of the building. The width, height, projection and distribution of each decorative element are determined in relation to the overall facade.
When properly detailed and installed, the system strengthens the architectural identity of an existing or new building and gives the exterior a more ordered, distinctive and prestigious appearance.
Which Elements Are Used on a Neoclassical Facade?
Depending on the project, the system may include:

Stone Wool and EPS Decorative Facade Elements
Neoclassical facade applications can use stone wool- or EPS-based decorative elements. The selection is based on the height of the building, substrate, element dimensions, fire-safety requirements, exposure conditions, programme and budget.
Where fire safety is a priority, we recommend stone wool decorative facade elements whose Euroclass A1 reaction-to-fire classification is confirmed in the manufacturer’s documentation.
Stone wool has a non-combustible mineral composition and does not contribute to the spread of fire. This makes it a safer solution for multi-storey housing, hotels, commercial buildings and projects with demanding fire-safety requirements. It can also contribute to thermal and acoustic performance.
EPS-based profiles are lightweight, easy to shape and can be produced in a wide range of dimensions. They are used where project fire requirements permit and where budget or programme is a primary consideration. Their fire performance, however, is not equivalent to that of stone wool.
For technically suitable projects, our preferred solution is therefore a documented A1-class stone wool neoclassical decorative facade system.
The term “A1” is used only when the classification is confirmed in the product’s declaration of performance or manufacturer documentation. The compatibility of adhesives, mechanical fixings, reinforcing mesh, base coats, finishes and paint layers is also checked as part of the complete facade build-up.
A Lightweight Alternative to a Precast Appearance
Stone wool and EPS decorative facade systems can create a neoclassical appearance without using heavy precast concrete or GRC elements. Their lower weight helps limit the additional load on the building and allows the installation programme to be managed more efficiently.
These systems are not identical to precast concrete or GRC. Their material composition, fixing methods, impact resistance and surface finishes differ. Selection is therefore based on the building and its application conditions, not solely on appearance or initial cost.
With the correct material, properly resolved details and qualified workmanship, it is possible to create a durable and elegant neoclassical facade while maintaining control of the project budget.
How Is a Neoclassical Facade Applied?
1. Site Survey and Existing-Condition Assessment
Facade dimensions, substrate condition, floor levels, window and door openings, balconies, eaves and other building elements that may affect the work are assessed.
2. Facade Composition
Available elevations and the proportions of the building are reviewed. The positions of surrounds, moldings, string courses, corner elements, cornices and other decorative components are then established.
3. Material and System Selection
Stone wool or EPS is selected according to fire-safety requirements, building height, substrate, profile dimensions, exposure conditions and budget.
4. Dimensions and Application Details
The decorative elements are dimensioned, and details for windows, sills, corners, floor transitions, eaves, joints and water drainage are prepared for installation.
5. Procurement and Fabrication Coordination
Elements are fabricated or procured to the approved dimensions. The compatibility of adhesives, mechanical fixings, reinforcing mesh, base coats and finishing materials is verified.
6. On-Site Installation
The facade substrate is prepared and the decorative elements are installed to the defined axes and dimensions. Joints, corners and returns are completed in accordance with the approved details.
7. Surface Finishing and Handover
Reinforced base coat, final finish and exterior paint are applied. Alignment, joints, surface quality and general workmanship are inspected before handover.

Should EPS or stone wool be used?
Where fire safety and long-term facade performance are priorities, we recommend stone wool decorative facade elements with a documented Euroclass A1 reaction-to-fire classification.
Stone wool has a non-combustible mineral structure and does not contribute to the spread of fire. It is therefore a safer choice for multi-storey housing, hotels, commercial buildings and other projects with high fire-safety expectations.
EPS profiles provide low weight, ease of shaping and cost advantages, but their fire performance is not equivalent to that of stone wool. For technically suitable projects, our priority is therefore a documented stone wool system.
The final selection is made after reviewing the building height, substrate, element dimensions, fire requirements, application details and manufacturer documentation.
Do you only sell decorative moldings or profiles?
No. Optimal Mimarlik provides an integrated neoclassical facade application covering site survey, material procurement, installation and surface finishes rather than the supply of individual moldings or profiles.
Can a neoclassical facade be applied to an existing building?
Yes. The existing substrate, load-bearing condition, thermal insulation, window details, drainage and fixing conditions are assessed first. The application system is then determined from these findings.
Are stone wool decorative elements classified as A1?
The A1 classification is used only for products whose declaration of performance or manufacturer documentation confirms it. Optimal Mimarlik checks the documentation of the proposed product before application.
Is a neoclassical facade system an alternative to precast concrete?
Stone wool- or EPS-based systems can provide a lighter and more budget-controlled alternative to a precast appearance on suitable buildings. Their material composition, fixing method and technical performance, however, are not the same as precast concrete or GRC.
