The entrance canopies of Beylikdüzü Atatürk Cultural Centre, located in the Beylikdüzü district of Istanbul, were clad in accordance with the architectural concept of the building. Custom-bent aluminum sheets shaped according to the project geometry were used to create a contemporary and integrated architectural appearance at the main entrance.
Custom-Bent Aluminum Cladding Designed for the Architectural Concept
Instead of standard-sized surface solutions, custom-bent aluminum sheets designed to follow the architectural form were used for the aluminum canopy cladding. The dimensions, angles, corner returns and connection points of the sheets were evaluated according to the geometry of the entrance canopies.
The custom-bending method enabled consistent transitions between the canopy surfaces and their edge finishes. As a result, the aluminum cladding was treated not only as a protective external surface but also as an important architectural element defining the entrance of the cultural centre.
Design and Installation Details of the Entrance Canopies
During the application process, the existing canopy geometry, cladding dimensions, sheet connections and their relationship with the surrounding architectural elements were evaluated together. The fabrication and installation sequence of the custom-bent aluminum sheets was planned to maintain the continuity of the architectural form.
The low weight, formability, suitability for exterior conditions and low maintenance requirements of aluminum provided important advantages for the large entrance canopy surfaces. The project-specific cladding solution provided a durable and long-lasting application for the intensively used entrance area of the cultural centre.
