Scope of the Mudo Modoko Store Building Project
Optimal Mimarlik completed the exterior facade and entrance canopy works for the Mudo store building located at the MODOKO Furniture Center in the Umraniye district of Istanbul. A distinctive facade arrangement was created using flat and trapezoidal perforated panels.
The facade design was developed by considering the geometry of the existing building, the commercial identity of the store, the panel modules and the architectural relationship with the entrance area. The perforated surfaces added visual depth to the store facade, while the combination of flat and trapezoidal forms created a rhythmic architectural effect.
How Was the Perforated Panel Facade Applied?
The facade panels were prepared according to the dimensions of the building and the planned facade module arrangement. Panel positions, joint lines and substructure connections were resolved as part of the application design.
The openings in perforated panels create a controlled visual relationship between solid and transparent surfaces. Light and shadow effects that change according to daylight and viewing angle gave the Mudo Modoko store facade a dynamic appearance throughout the day.
How Were Flat and Trapezoidal Panels Combined on the Facade?
Flat panels defined the main facade surfaces, while trapezoidal panels were used to create different planes and transitions. Combining the two panel forms prevented the wide store facade from appearing monotonous and strengthened its architectural composition.
Panel modules and joint lines were arranged to maintain continuity across the facade. Transitions between the flat and trapezoidal surfaces were completed in accordance with the panel dimensions and substructure details.
How Were the Perforated Panel Details Planned?
The panel dimensions, perforation pattern, open-area ratio, surface form, joint spacing and connection details must be considered together in perforated panel facade applications. In the Mudo Modoko project, the positioning of the panels on the building and the transitions between different forms were planned before installation.
The substructure and panel connections were resolved with the aim of maintaining the intended facade appearance. This approach preserved the architectural effect of the perforated surfaces while allowing the panels to continue consistently across the facade.

How Was the Entrance Canopy Designed and Installed?
The canopy above the store entrance was designed in accordance with the architectural language of the perforated panel facade. Its dimensions and junctions with the facade were developed to emphasize the entrance and define the approach to the store.
The entrance canopy was not treated as an independent element added to the building. It was designed and installed together with the geometry of the facade panels, the location of the store entrance and the overall appearance of the building.
How Were the Facade and Entrance Canopy Coordinated?
The panel grid, joint lines, surface transitions and connection details were planned together so that the perforated panel facade and entrance canopy could function as parts of the same architectural composition. Particular attention was paid to maintaining the continuity of the facade cladding around the entrance and integrating the canopy with the building.
Optimal Mimarlik coordinated the different stages, from preparing the application details to panel positioning and on-site installation, within a unified facade plan. This approach established an orderly architectural relationship between the flat and trapezoidal panel surfaces and the entrance canopy.
Project Outcome
The completed work at the Mudo Modoko store building resulted in a distinctive exterior facade that supports the visibility of the commercial building and emphasizes its main entrance. The flat and trapezoidal perforated panels added depth and rhythm to the facade, while the entrance canopy completed the building’s arrival point.
The project is an Optimal Mimarlik application demonstrating how perforated panel facades can be used to create architectural identity for stores and commercial buildings.
